Care Instructions

With a little gentle care, your silk can stay soft and beautiful for years to come. Here is how to wash, dry and smooth your silk pillowcases and unfilled silk bedding. For silk-filled duvets, use our Silk Duvet Care guide.

How to hand wash silk

  1. Fill a basin with cool to lukewarm water, no warmer than 30°C / 86°F.
  2. Add a gentle, silk-safe detergent in the amount recommended on the bottle.
  3. Separate colours and turn the item inside out.
  4. Soak for up to 5 minutes, then gently move the fabric through the water. Do not rub or scrub.
  5. Rinse thoroughly with clean, cool water.
  6. Do not wring or twist. Gently press out excess water with a clean towel.
  7. Lay flat or hang to dry in the shade, away from direct sunlight.

How to machine wash silk

  1. Wash silk separately from other fabrics and separate light and dark colours.
  2. Turn the item inside out and place it in a mesh laundry bag to protect the fabric.
  3. Add a gentle, silk-safe detergent.
  4. Select a delicate or silk cycle with cold water and a gentle spin.
  5. Remove promptly after washing and gently press out excess moisture with a clean towel.
  6. Lay flat or hang to dry in the shade. Do not tumble dry.

Drying and smoothing

Avoid wringing, direct sunlight and high heat. To soften creases, use a steamer on its silk or low-steam setting, keeping the steamer head away from the fabric. Let silk dry completely before folding it away.
