Silk vs. TENCEL™ Lyocell: How to Choose
Silk and TENCEL™ Lyocell can both be used in soft bedding, but they are different fibers. Silk is an animal-derived protein fiber. TENCEL™ Lyocell is Lenzing's branded lyocell fiber made from wood-based cellulose. The feel and care of a finished product also depend on its weave, construction, and finishing.
Start with the fiber label
Check the fiber content of the exact pillowcase or bedding item. A product may use one fiber, a blend, or different materials for its outer fabric and filling. Do not assume every item sold under a collection has the same composition.
Compare the finished product
Consider the texture you prefer, the available size and color, closure details, and the care label. Both fibers are offered in different fabrics; a material name alone cannot tell you which specific product will feel better or last longer for you.
Plan for care
Follow the sewn-in care label on the item you buy. Washing guidance can differ between silk fabric, lyocell fabric, blends, and filled bedding. If a label is unclear, ask the seller before washing.
If you are considering silk, browse The Silk Space pillowcases and check each product page for its current specifications, price, and availability. For more on TENCEL™ Lyocell fiber, see the fiber maker's description.
